Adoration - to be very fond of

Obliged - did a favor for or did something as a favor

My Thoughts

Bad parents! Well, it’s an interesting picture of bad parents we can think of.  I believe that there are tons of ill parents.  Whenever they say our parents are always giving lots of love to their children, I often get so sarcastic about that notion. From my childhood, I’m telling ya, I have only few good memories about my own parents.  The rest are the worst.  I didn’t even realize that I used to have very bad experience with my family members when I was younger, but I came to realize that there are some nicer parents and siblings who always look on the bright side even though they go through very difficult times.  Our in-law’s family is one of the group of good families.  I’m honored to be a daughter-in-law of my gracious mother-in-law.

YOU ARE NO ALONE

So Matilda's strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: YOU ARE NOT ALONE

SHE TRAVELLED ALL OVER THE WORLD WHILE SITTING IN HER LITTLE ROOM IN AN ENGLISH VILLAGE

The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad. She went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.

Ch6-10

peroxide-프어록싸이드-What did Matilda put in her dad’s hair gel?  A chemical stuff.

The chokey-Miss Truncbull used for bad students.

Braided pigtails-양갈래로 땋은 머리

shotput -샷풋-It is a trac and field event involving “throwing”/”putting”a heavy spherical object - the shot- as far as possible.

Summary

Matilda enters school at age five-and-a-half, later than most kids begin primary school because her parents are ignorant.  Her homeroom teacher is Miss Honey, who is gentle, smart, listening, and caring for her little students.  Matilda has a good feeling about her teacher.  Miss Honey discovers that Matilda is a prodigy.  Unlike Miss Honey, Miss Trunchbull, the headmistress, doesn’t believe what Miss Honey speaks about a Matilda’s great performance.  Matilda feels amazed by other students talking about the furious headmistress.

Ch11-15

Underestimate=Not value highly enough

Intrigue-hypnotized, unable to turn away

Enthralled-interest highly

Custom-practice

My Thoughts

It’s like a tug of war.  There is a battle between the students vs. Miss Trunchbull.  It’s more likely to understand that it is a battle of youth vs. adults.  Miss Trunchbull is an “adult” in the bad sense of the word children may confront.  It haunts me to think that the students and my own children might think of me as a Miss Trunchbull because I often lose myself, abuse my power over them to roll the class around.

Ch16-21

Impertinent-rude; disrespectful

Elated-very happy and proud

Ethereal-heavenly; otherworldly

Crimson-red

Matilda discovers that Miss Trunchbull is far more filthy person than she is observed at school.  Since Matilda learns she can manipulate some sort of supernatural power, she starts practicing it to help with Miss Honey’s life.  Everything turns upside down for the better.  Matilda surprisingly finds a new parent, who is Miss Honey.  I’m not sure how I can react to the ending but who cares? Things like everybody is happy at the end of the story.
